Place Value 10-20

This half term, we have begun with understanding the place value of numbers from 10-20. We have had lots of practical sessions using ten frames and counters, as well as dienes. It has really helped the children to see practically, the amount of tens and ones within the numbers. Mastering this with concrete resources really is imperative to everything else that will come next in Maths. The children have used lots of sentence stems whilst using concrete resources, like ' 16 has 1 ten and 6 ones' to help them move forward to an abstract way of understanding these numbers.
