Today, in science, the children were learning about gases and their properties as part of our learning on states of matter. To explore this, we mixed together raisins, lemonade and carbon dioxide (in the liquid) to create dancing raisins!

The combination of raisins and carbon dioxide gas is lighter than the raisin alone, so when many “bubbles” form on the raisin, they lift the raisin to the surface. When some bubbles break, the weight increases, the raisins sink and then the whole process is repeated. This makes the raisins appear to dance!
