Online resources play an important role in supporting children's learning both at school and at home.
Below is a list of key online resources our school uses which can be accessed from home:
Once children reach a certain level in their reading, they are able to access a reading program called Accelerated Reader. The program provides quizzes for the children to take once they have read a book which improves their comprehension.
There are over 30,000 books with Accelerated Reader quizzes. You can check whether a book has a quiz by searching for it on Accelerated Reader Bookfinder. Information about the books such as its book level and how many points it's worth will also be provided. Children should choose books with levels that fall between their zone of proximal development (ZPD).
We subscribe to myON so that the children can have access to over 6000 enhanced digital books online. All of the books on myON have Accelerated Reader book levels so that children can choose books within their ZPD range. Most of the books also have an Accelerated Reader quiz to complete afterwards.
The children can take the quizzes using an iPad or computer. Children should use their username and password to log in, then select "Accelerated Reader":
Renaissance Home Connect
Accelerated Reader has a special feature called Renaissance Home Connect which enables parents and carers to access information about the books their children have read and the quizzes they have taken. Parents/carers should use their child's username and password to log in.
BBC Lockdown Learning
The BBC has brought hundreds of educational resources together to help with home schooling.
Content to help with learning at home is available on TV, online and social media.
We use Google Classroom to set new home learning tasks, give feedback to children and provide an effective communication channel between home and school. We will use Google Classroom to provide remote learning if the need arises in the future.
Oak National Academy
Backed by government grant funding, the Oak National Academy provides video lessons across a broad range of subjects.
Oxford Owl is a collection of free eBooks, developed for children aged 3–11 years old. Additional eBooks are being made available for the duration of UK school closures.
PhonicsPlay is used in school regularly to support the teaching of phonics. It is currently free to use.
Pobble 365 uses pictures to inspire children to write. Our teachers will direct children towards relevant images on our Virtual School pages and via Google Classroom.
Sing Up at Home
Music and singing are incredibly powerful, and can help support children in so many ways – emotionally, physically and intellectually. Sing Up at Home provides free resources to keep children learning and singing outside of school.
